Le quatrième numéro de Livre Avant est consacré au Workwear américain et fait suite au premier numéro paru en février 2019.
Ce volume explore l'histoire des immigrés chinois lors de la ruée vers l'or, la découverte d'un rare pantalon Levi's de 1880 dans une mine californienne, et les détails prisés des collectionneurs comme les trous d'aération sur les chemises de travail ou la fameuse « jugulaire ».
Lynn Downey, ancienne historienne de Levi Strauss & Co., revient sur son parcours de 25 ans aux archives de la marque. Des aficionados du vintage taïwanais expliquent l'essor du marché vintage à Taïwan, tandis que des entretiens avec Akira Tsuchida (Mushroom Vintage) et Michael Harris (auteur de Jeans of the Old West) complètent ce voyage dans l'histoire américaine.
Chaque histoire plonge le lecteur dans les origines des États-Unis et offre une perspective moderne sur l'influence de ces vêtements sur la société d'hier et d'aujourd'hui.
